About Us

Friends, and family alike have helped contribute to HoltonGallery.com. Here is a bit of information on those people who help on the business end of Holton Gallery.

Matt Holton

For as long as he can remember, Matt Holton has had a drawing tool in hand, yet he never considered art as a career. He studied law, philosophy, and political science in college, became a professional marathon runner, did surveying, and even worked as a pastry chef (a position his dad holds at the Maui Prince Hotel).

In 2005, Holton moved back to Maui. He’s been applying the lessons of that eclectic background to his art ever since. “Surveying helped me perfect Cartesian points,” he says. “Philosophy shaped my values.” Working in the kitchen taught him the task of preparation –and gave him the idea of putting his larger canvases on a lazy Susan to maneuver them more easily when he’s sketching compositions: portraits of island people, pictures of island flora. Like renowned Hawaiian artist Herb Kane, whom he admires, Holton sees his paintings as a medium for telling island stories – the pride of a friend’s daughter who danced in the Merrie Monarch hula festival, the resilience of old-time Maui ranchers – keeping alive through the medium of art what life used to be like in Hawaii. -Rita Goldman

Cristina Pineda

I manage and help represent Matt on the island of Maui. I also assemble products (with the help of Doreen Holton), work on the design of the website, and I am the customer service contact for the website, and private buyers on island.  I have seen Matt's work grow over the years, and I am proud to be a part of something so special. Please feel free to call me (808) 250-2644, or email me with any questions.

Our Business

Holton Gallery is on 48 acres of beautiful pasture in Upcountry Kula, in a 1,200 square foot Japanese farm house from the 1930's. Since November of 2005, this setting has been a source of inspiration to Matt's artwork, and continues to nurture the business as well.
